Assemblage Art Workshop

I'm going to have to Clean Up!
Well I have been asked many many times whether I would consider teaching and I have considered it for a couple of years now. I just hope I haven't considered it too long.

I have come up with a 3 day work shop called "Drill It, Screw It and Glue It!"
January 20,21,22, 2009

The first question inevitably I am asked is what kind of glue do I use # 2 is where do I find my stuff. I will be supplying items out of my collection for students use. I am limiting the class to 6 participants because I want to teackh in my studio where I have a lot of built in ventilation. We are going to experiment with various glues and adhesiveis not normally handled because of fume/vapor problems. I am also going to have battery powered had drills and dremmels and show people how I use them , hold small objects for drilling lots of cool stuff.

So far I have about 3 very talented artists planning on coming

You can go to my website and get the full course description.

New Sculptures with Hands

Purple Painting Party

This is a closer view of the commission I recently completed for a private home here in the Santa Barbara Area. The overall piece measured to the edges of outstretched hands approx 5.5' high x 3.5' wide.

I worked with the couple to first measure the area where they wanted to hang the piece and determine the size it should be and then get their wishes for color and what kind of overall impact the wanted.

This is the piece that started everything . This is the first wall-hanging hand sculpture. The hands are all vintage ladies gloves filled with expanding urethane foam and sealed with shellac, clear sealer, gesso, the painted with acrylics and varnished with golden uv protective varnish.

These pieces are joyous, positive, provocative and definitely not landscapes.

Wearable Art

I now have a variety of hand made wearable art that ranges from freshwater pearls to vintage jewelry fashioned into necklaces and earrings. These pieces are fun and fashionable but not simple or plain. They demand the wearer be seen and reckoned with, marveled at and envied from afar.

"Achemy"

This is what I have always felt is at the heart of Assemblage and collage work.

Not turning lead into gold precisely, but creating something from nothing, a true spirit of creation, using discarded bits and pieces to create fantastic compositions.

I will be showing some newer pieces as well as some older favorites.
